Welcome to MyGrandoggers: A Lifestyle Blog

Our Mission

At MyGrandogger.com, we believe in celebrating the joy of being a Grandpawrent. Many of our human children have yet to have children of their own, and may never actually bless us with their own progeny. Our mission is to inspire our Grandpawrents  to embrace a lifestyle filled with adventure, love, and happiness with their GRANDDOGS! And, remember, whenever possible, #AdoptDontShop!

Tater and Lu

Tater’s Story

Our story begins where someone else’s story ends. My youngest human child had just embarked on her career journey. Lu Lu (human child), had just landed her very first job at a local pet store in the suburbs. We had very carefully chosen her first foray into the working world, and  this position strongly aligned with her animal loving soul. This position introduced her to things I could not have ever imagined. And it brought The Tater Tot into our lives.

Wendy was Taters mom, and Wendy worked with Lu. Tater accompanied Wendy to work daily and was never out of Wendy’s sight. Lu fell in love with Tater and talked about her constantly. Unfortunately, Wendy (though quite young), lost her second fight with breast cancer. Lu wanted to immediately adopt Tater, but at the time we already had several cats and my three ancient dogs. Tater went to another household and I thought that was that. A few months went by and Lu came to me explaining that Taters new home wasn’t working out for her as she didn’t like a male member of the household. Lu knows me very well, and chose a trait that she knew I would empathize with knowing as a divorced single mom, I could commiserate on that topic.

Anyway, Tater was living with us within days. And we adore her. All eight pounds of her. She is spoiled and quite literally runs the household. She does NOT enjoy being home with just Mimi and will howl until one of the kids come home, yes, the entire time. TaTo has numerous quirks and we quite literally do not care. She has been through a lot and is now thirteen years old. She can do whatever she wants to do. It’s her world and she graciously allows us to live in it!

Young Mr. Black’s Adoption Story

My son has been talking about getting his own dog for the last couple of years. Whenever he would come home to visit, my ancient dog Ryder would attach himself to Jules until he left. Ryder was a maybe 17 pound chiweenie of unknown origin that we adopted when he was about 4 years old according to our vet.
Well, as young men do, Jules recently got a girlfriend who had her own dog, Roxy. Roxy was an older girl that was having health issues and whenever her mom would spend the night, would accompany her mom to stay over at my son’s downtown condo. This really reinforced to Jules that he wanted his own dog.
On my son’s last visit he mentioned wanting to get a dog again. They found a listing for some dogs named after Harry Potter characters and the rest is history. Sirius is a small coal black version of Ryder. We still have not ran his DNA, but there is certainly some deer head chihuahua in the adorable little beast. Unfortunately, Roxy was diagnosed with terminal cancer shortly after the adoption of Young Mr. Black but he did get to hang out with her during her last couple of weeks.
I have yet to actually meet my youngest granddog, but did take great pleasure in sending him a ball that he doesn’t understand how to play in. I look forward to tormenting my son with an endless supply of crap his dog doesn’t need.
